A sulfuric acid production plant has been launched in the Zhambyl region.
In the Sarysu district of the Zhambyl region, a sulfuric acid production plant with a capacity of 800,000 tons per year has been launched. The project is being implemented by EuroChem Group as part of the construction of the large chemical complex “EuroChem‑Karatau”. The total investment in the project is estimated at almost 1 billion dollars, Ulysmedia.kz reports.
What will be produced?
After reaching full capacity, the enterprise will be able to produce up to 1 million tons of products per year. In addition to sulfuric acid, the plant will produce dicalcium phosphate, potassium sulfate, calcium chloride, and synthetic gypsum. The production uses a more environmentally friendly technology. Instead of phosphogypsum, it is planned to produce products that can be used in construction and agriculture. The general EPC contractor for the project is the Chinese company CNCEC, which specializes in the construction of large chemical plants. Currently, more than a thousand people work at EuroChem’s facilities in the Zhambyl Region, and about 300 more jobs are provided by service companies. After the chemical complex is fully operational, investors and authorities expect to create at least 1,200 permanent jobs. The second phase of the facility is planned to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2027.
